Before founding Roop & Co. in 1996, Jim Roop served for 15 years as chief operating officer of Watt, Roop & Co. (now Fleishman-Hillard), which was then one of the Midwest's largest independent public relations and marketing communication firms. Roop began his career in 1972 with Ketchum Public Relations in Pittsburgh, becoming vice president in 1977. He joined Burson-Marsteller in Chicago, where he was vice president and client services manager in 1979. Both firms are among the ten largest public relations businesses worldwide.
Roop has been named one of the "Top 100 PR Superstars" by Public Relations Quarterly Magazine, is one of ten founding members of the Public Relations Society of America's (PRSA) Investor Relations Hall of Fame and is a charter member of the National Investor Relations Institute's (NIRI) Senior Investor Relations Roundtable. He is a member of PRSA's College of Fellows and is accredited by PRSA. He is past chairman of PRSA's Investor Relations Section, Honors and Awards Committee and Silver Anvil Committee and is a past president of the Cleveland/Akron and Pittsburgh chapters of NIRI.
Roop has authored numerous articles on investor relations and corporate communication for professional journals and is a frequent lecturer on these topics. Client programs under his direction have won six Silver Anvil Awards, the highest honor for public relations programming. He is the winner of PRSA's 1999 Lighthouse Award, given to senior public relations practitioners for lifetime achievements. He is a 1993 graduate of Leadership Cleveland.
Roop is listed in Who's Who in the World and other Who's Who publications. He is a cum laude graduate of West Virginia University, Morgantown, and serves on the Visiting Committee of the WVU School of Journalism.
