Mark Hass
Global Chief Executive Officer
Mark Hass is the global chief executive officer of Manning Selvage & Lee (MS&L), one of the world's leading global public relations firms. He has held this position since April 2005. In this role, Hass leads MS&L and its global management team, and acts as a strategic counselor to the firm's largest clients, including General Motors, Philips and Procter & Gamble.
Hass is also a member of the Public Relations and Corporate Communications executive team of the Publicis Groupe (NYSE – PUB), the world’s fourth largest communications organization, and shares responsibility for driving global growth of the Groupe’s public relations businesses.
Hass joined MS&L in 2002, when his public relations agency, Hass Associates, was acquired and merged into MS&L. As CEO of Hass Associates, then Michigan’s largest PR firm, he was a senior counsel to GM, serving on its internal Communications Strategy Board. He was also a key consultant for Chrysler Corp. during the integration of its communications function with that of the former Daimler-Benz. Hass Associates, named by the Holmes Report as Technology Agency of the Year in 2000, was best known for its innovative work integrating online strategies into the communications activities of global companies, and Hass continues to champion MS&L’s industry-leading work with blogs, mobile technologies and other new media.
Prior to entering the public relations business, Hass worked as a journalist for nearly two decades in roles that included deputy managing editor at The Detroit News, where his staff won the Pulitzer Prize; assistant city editor at The Miami Herald; and reporter at various daily newspapers across the country.
He is on the board of directors for the Council of PR Firms, the U.S. trade association for public relations agencies. He is a Media Council member of the Paley Center in New York, and a member of the Arthur Page Society and PR Seminar. He also serves on the Corporate Service Council of the Points of Light & Hands on Network.
Hass has a 21-year-old daughter and lives in New York City.
